Wind Ensemble

Overview: The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert ensemble at BHS.  Students are typically in grades 10-12, and are placed in the ensemble based on auditions throughout their high school career and director recommendation.  Students focus on advanced musical concepts and skills, and typically perform music at a Grade 4 or 5 level on the Maryland Music Educator's Graded Repertoire list.  The Wind Ensemble has received superior ratings at the Washington County and Maryland State Large Ensemble Festival, and has been named the Grand Champion of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Concert Festival in Winchester, VA.

Eligibility: The wind ensemble is open to Boonsboro High School students in Grades 9-12.  As the Wind Ensemble is a select ensemble, students should have director permission to register.  This permission is contingent on auditions as well as general performance in other ensembles throughout a student's high school career. All Wind Ensemble students must be enrolled in the correct band class, as rehearsals do occur during the school day.  Wind players should enroll in 6th period band and percussionists should enroll in 3rd period percussion ensemble. Students must maintain conduct and academic eligibility in order to perform with the wind ensemble. For questions concerning eligibility and scheduling, please contact Mr. Engel.

Performances: The wind ensemble performs in three to four concerts over the course of the school year.  The wind ensemble performs annually in the Washington County Large Ensemble Festival in March, and the Maryland State Large Ensemble Festival in May should they qualify at the county event.  Additionally, the wind ensemble participates in several other community and regional events such as an annual concert at Shafer Park, the Sharpsburg Memorial Day Ceremony, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA, and various other events.

Rehearsals: The wind ensemble rehearses daily during class.  Occasionally, the ensemble might rehearse outside of school to prepare for a concert or for Festival.  These rehearsals will be communicated by Mr. Engel as needed.  Please check the Wind Ensemble calendar for full rehearsal information. (Note that daily in-school rehearsals are not listed in the calendar)
