Jazz Band

Overview: The Jazz Band is an extracurricular ensemble that rehearses outside of the regular school day.  The ensemble's performance season typically runs from December-May, and is open to all BHS students.   The ensemble has performed at Hagerstown's Swingin' in the Park, Western Maryland Blues Fest, the Hagerstown Museum of Fine Arts, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility: The jazz band is open to Boonsboro High School students in Grades 9-12.  Students who do not play a traditional jazz instrument may join, and will either play arranged parts for their instrument or double on another instrument. Jazz band students must be present at all rehearsals, which are held entirely outside of the school day. Students must maintain conduct and academic eligibility in order to perform with the jazz band. For questions concerning eligibility and scheduling, please contact Mr. Engel.

Performances: The jazz band performs in one or two concerts throughout the year.  Additionally, the jazz band performs in the Swinging in the Park jazz festival in Hagerstown, the Blue Ridge Jazz Festival in Smithsburg, and other local or regional events that may occur throughout the school year.  For full performance information, please refer to the Jazz Band calendar.

Rehearsals: The jazz band rehearses after school twice a week from 3:45-5:00pm.  As each player in the jazz band is generally playing a completely independent part, attendance at all rehearsals is critical.  Please contact Mr. Engel. as soon as possible if you need to miss a rehearsal.  Please refer to the Jazz Band calendar for full rehearsal information.
