Marching Band

Overview: The award-winning Boonsboro Warrior Marching Band is a competitive outdoor ensemble performing in the USBands competitive marching circuit.  The marching band competes from September-November, and also participates in local parades and other events in the Fall and Spring.  Over the past 75 years, the marching band has performed at our nations top venues including MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, the US Naval Academy Stadium in Annapolis, MD, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, the Kentucky Derby, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Eligibility: The marching band is open to Boonsboro High School students in Grades 9-12.  All Boonsboro High School students must be enrolled in the correct band class, as rehearsals do occur during the school day.  Occasionally, Washington County Technical High School students may participate in the band with special permission by the director and enrolling in the class through Tech High. Students must maintain conduct and academic eligibility in order to perform with the marching band. For questions concerning eligibility and scheduling, please contact Mr. Engel.

Performances: The marching band performs at home football games throughout the fall season, as well as several other school events such as pep rallies.  Additionally, the band performs at regional and national competitions in the USBands competitive circuit throughout the fall.  The band also performs in local and regional community events, such as the Alsatia Mummers Parade, the Sharpsburg and Boonsboro Memorial Day Parades, Homecoming Festivities, and others.  During the fall season, the marching band performs an average of once per week.  Please check the marching band calendar for full performance information.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals for the marching band begin in late June, and occur once weekly from 6pm-8:30pm on Monday nights.  In late July/early August, the band holds band camp from 9am-8:30pm.  During the school year, the band rehearses in sections during the school day and holds weekly full ensemble rehearsals on Monday evenings from 6-8:30pm.  Marching rehearsals end at the conclusion of the competitive season, usually in early November.  Unless informed specifically otherwise, all students are expected to be present at all rehearsals.  If a student must miss a rehearsal for any reason, the absence must be approved by Mr. Engel at least two weeks prior to the scheduled absence.  Please check the marching band calendar for full rehearsal information.

Other Information:

  • There are financial obligations associated with marching band.  For full information, visit our Boosters Page or contact Mr. Engel.

  • Although marching band is co-curricular and has commitments outside of the regular school day, it is possible and even common for students to participate in other activities outside of marching band.  Many marching band students are fall athletes, are involved in academic organizations, and are active in the community in civic and religious organizations.

  • Because marching band is an athletic as well as musical activity, it is important that students prepare for the physical demands associated with marching.
